MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

29 June 2011

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel presently take advantage of a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Team, has actually been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a variety of small businesses in Cornwall currently earn money from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this type of market going it does require just a bit of lift which is available in the form of tax inescapable."

Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
